Our first Repair Cafe of the year, hosted by Jessica McGee through her North Art Studio space at St. Paul Episcopal Church. We tried a Friday night to accommodate the schedule of some key volunteers, and we incorporated a DIY Materials swap by Peggy West, also a North Art Studio artist. Also a clothing swap! 

Fix-It Story of the Night: a woman had a fan she had taken apart to clean it and then could not get it back together. Could we help? While my forte is sewing related, I am not afraid to tinker, and our main small appliance volunteer was occupied, so we sat down to see what we could figure out while we were waiting. We watched some YouTube videos and determined there might be some missing parts, later confirmed by our small appliance volunteer. I went on to help a visitor (Ben) sew a button on to a very thick wool pea coat. When Ben was checking out he asked if he could volunteer and I said yes, what would you like to work on, he said “small appliances” and I said why don’t you have a look at this woman’s fan? She was getting ready to leave and as Ben walked towards her he said, “is that a Dyson?” She said yes and he said, “I used to work for Dyson.” He determined what parts were needed and arranged to meet to complete the fix at the next scheduled Repair Cafe. What magic is this, Repair Cafe?
